Put away the foreign gods that are among you…

Genesis (35):

“Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”
And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments.  Then let us arise and go up to Bethel; and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me in the way which I have gone.”

Almighty One,

May we hear Your voice of instruction as Jacob did.
May we put away from us any other god(s).
May we be pure before You.
Would You reveal Yourself.

Today I am reading: Genesis 34 – 36; Luke 14

One Response to “Put away the foreign gods that are among you…”

  1. 1/15/09
Titus 2:11-14 11For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
Thank You for Your Grace Oh God. Teach us to look to You to learn to say no to anything that would hinder us from walking with You. Thank You Jesus for giving yourself freely for us. Thank You for redeeming us for purifying us. Reveal Your self to us we pray. Amen
