Pursue Righteousness with a Pure Heart

Paul, to Timothy:

Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers.

But shun profane and idle bablings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.

Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.  But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.

But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves… — …lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power.  And from such people turn away!

Purest Lord Jesus,

May we set aside all the foolish, arrogant and ignorant disputes, the profane and idle babblings and the unprofitable striving over words that would distract us from pursuing You.  Give us a pure heart as we call on You.  Please, let us not have merely a form of godliness.  We desire You.  Reveal Yourself we pray.

Today I am reading: II Timothy 1 – 4

One Response to “Pursue Righteousness with a Pure Heart”

    Psalm 15:1-3

1 LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?
Who may live on your holy hill?
2 He whose walk is blameless
and who does what is righteous,
who speaks the truth from his heart
3 and has no slander on his tongue,
who does his neighbor no wrong
and casts no slur on his fellowman,

Dear Lord may my lips be pleasing to You. May I speak the truth in love. May I guard my tongue from speaking anything that is not pleasing to You.
Guard my heart and my tongue. Purify me Lord, that I may speak and act according to Your will.
