The Son of God revealed

While it would seem that the death of the Almighty Son of God, and the immediately ensuing violence in the earth (earth quaking, rocks splitting, etc) would have caused a massive revelation of the unthinkable thing that had just taken place, it seems that is not the case.  Depending on the account (Luke: “the whole crowd”, Matthew: “the centurion and his guards” Mark: “the centurion opposite Him) it was in fact almost unnoticed.  But consider the declaration of the one(s) whose eyes were opened: (from Mark 15)

“So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!””

Precious Redeemer,

We don’t understand what causes some to see You for who You are, and others to passionately embrace the darkness of unbelief.  We certainly don’t understand the cause of a changed heart – changing from “There is no God” to “Truly this Man was the Son of God” in an instant – except that it is You who changes the heart.  It is You, and can only be You, that causes our hearts to first believe and then to realize how great and horrible our separation from you is, and finally to offer the ultimate solution to that great and horrible problem we have been confronted with.  So, we ask, “What can we do?”, knowing that only You ‘can do’ the revealing of Yourself that needs to hapen… only You can change hearts.  My heart. The hearts of those close to me. The hearts of men and women, the world over.  And the response we hear, time and time again, is PRAY.  So we pray.  Reveal Yourself.  With faith in what You have already revealed to us, we desperately cry out that You reveal Yourself to us and to the world.

Amen
