A promise to rely on

Jesus, after cursing a fig tree and reclaiming the temple as a house of prayer, explained to Peter – who had noticed him curse the tree and later that the tree was “dried up from the roots” –

“Have faith in God.  For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.  Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

Gracious Father,

How we long for You to be revealed.  It seems that nothing else matters as much as knowing You.  We know that You know that we need our ‘daily bread’, but we also realize that ‘man does not live by bread alone’.  So, with no doubt in our hearts, and believing that You will do it, we ask, “Please Lord, reveal Yourself to us today.  We want, no, we need to know You.  And, like the fig tree, would you cause anything in us (that is holding us back from knowing You) to wither and die.  In all things, we ask that we would know You.
