God, Please Draw Near to Us

Job, talking about “the wicked” in chapter 21 describes the good fortune that he sees them enjoying.  There would seem to be no indication that they are outside of God’s favor.  But then he points out:

“Yet they say to God, ‘Depart from us,
For we do not desire the knowledge of Your ways.

Who is the Almighty, that we should serve Him?
And what profit do we have if we pray to Him?’”

Merciful Savior,

The prayer of our heart is quite the opposite.  We ask You, not to depart from us, but to draw near to us.  We do desire the knowledge of Your ways.  We do ask that You reveal Yourself more so that we can serve You better, especially since it seems that the lack of this revelation is the cause of the arrogance of the wicked.  And finally, we choose to pray to You, not for any profit (perceived or otherwise), but simply because You said that we should.

Please let our hearts always stay soft before You, and daily, make reveal more of Yourself to us.

Amen
